Graduated in Archaeology and History in 1976
(Nottingham). Worked since 1976 with EH and its predecessor
(Department of the Environment), starting as Inspector of
Ancient Monuments. Since late 1980s, focussed particularly
on developing the place of archaeology in land-use planning,
on the integration of archaeological resource management
with other environemtnal issues, on sustainability, on EH's
national evaluation/designation prgramme (MPP), and on
historic landscape characterisation. Currently also
Co-ordinator a Review of policies affecting the historic
environment, which English Heritage has been asked to carry
out by the Government.
